Very simple.  Get your starfield object (or randomst.lwo from your objects\space
directory), and set the luminousity to 100%.  Apply the fractal noise texture,
with frequencies set to 1, to the luminousity for the stars.  Have the value of
the texture as dim as the faintest star you want.  Then, give it a SMALL velocity
(perhaps 0.01) in any axis, and the stars will appear to have a varying
brightness which will change over time, giving them a "twinkling" appearance!
